Leaving in the morning for a short trip to London and Edinburgh. Normally I have no problem packing for London but I've looked at three weather sites and all 3 say something different.
How wet? How warm? Help!

In London: 14 C (57 F) at 0530 BST, predictedly rising to 23 C (73 F) by the middle of the day. Low humidity, and with a growing percentage of Tube capacity air-conditioned, and the ccity as empty as it always is in mid-Aug, close to perfect for sightseeing. Predicted to get very rainy towards the weekend, then back to dry warmth by Sunday or Monday.
Much the same, with temps a few degrees lower, in Edinburgh. Like any British forecast: no guarantee that forecast will be the same tomorrow.
A few days ago, "forecasts" of 35 C (unbearable in any other measurement system) in London by now were rife. All now blown away.

Thank you! -- that helps a LOT
"then back to dry warmth by Sunday or Monday."
Unfortunately I'll be on a train to Edinburgh Sunday morning.

Yep - a given.
I'm good for Edinburgh but my usual 'London Wardrobe' just seemed to heavy for the temps I was seeing. low 20's/70's is perfect.

Depends where you're going. My last few forays into central London, it struck me as even more crowded than usual.

Not sure if related, but South West trains have an "Anywhere for £16 off peak" ticket at the moment.
I was in London on Thursday, and the 8:15pm from Clapham to Poole was an unairconditioned sardine can of a train - absolutely packed with standing people until Winchester.

Footfall in the West End and South Bank IS denser than usual. But, like every August, the trains in and out and the tubes are almost empty (I don't have to deal with the knock-on effect of the Southern chaos), and driving round London - at least where they're not digging the street up - is almost blissful.
Once you've got past Oxford.
The net effect is surreal. Driving out along some streets around 1030-1100, the pavements are more crowded than the roads.

It's been warm all summer - just not very sunny. More grey and muggy most days. Very little rain. The school run hiatus has been replaced by jack-knifing caravans and Fiat 500s and Mini Coopers with on average 6 people crammed into each one.
