I didn't know you could flag down a train...hmmm...must add to my "to do" list for my next visit to Italy.

I agree with Johanna! When are you taking ALL of us to Italy??!!

You know, the guides usually travel free . . . leave WL at home (jk) and what an adventure we'd all have! ;-)

Well, it was a local train - my bet is that a grandson of one the grandmothers was driving the darn thing.

Looking back on it, I think they were trying to tell us earlier not to leave the station and the train would come by eventually.

Well, SusanP, how about Degas in Dior?

That infamously hairy back would so nicely accentuate the lines of a pink strapless gown. Wouldn't that be quite the memorable sight, hoofing it down the road back to Lucca?

Yikes - I just opened my credit card statements.

The exchange rate couldn't have been that bad? Thank goodness we didn't pay attention to it while on the trip!

degas in a gown, hairy back and all, flagging down a train...now that I would pay money to see!

Just add the Italian Nona-types circling Degas on their bicycles....ala Zeigfeld follies? Can't you just see it? Appropriate music?

Since we haven't heard back from our heartthrob Degas I hope his hearty heart hasn't stopped beating since he took a look at his credit card statement. Degas, are you still there?

I'm still reeling from opening the mail - thought "the big one" was about to put me six feet under when I saw that long, long list of huge charges!

Thank goodness we used FF miles or I'd have been a goner for sure. A cheapskate can only take so much "shock & awe" at one time.

LOL Degas. Hopefully you used a credit card in Italy that gives you FF miles? If so, as some clever woman here on Fodor's said recently to her husband.."don't look at it as spending money dear, look at it as getting FF miles". A theory to live by Degas!

bardo1, afraid that's all for the mis-advantures.

We had great weather, encountered no rude people, heard no anti-american BS, enjoyed great food and wine and got to see and do all we had set out to - kinda scary, no?

My main beef was the hotel staff and waiters "chatting up" and being overly nice to my LW, now she expects such stuff from me!

I did want to mention a place called Ristorante La Taverne Dei Monti, Via del Boschetto, 41. Right off Via Nazionale. Small, friendly, inexpensive.
