I'm sorry to report that Roger Sheridan- our own rogeruktm (uktrainman elsewhere) has left us on his last and longest journey.

I can only hope he's still following his own route, speaking to the strangers he meets, and bringing them the pleasure he brought to ma and many others.

Sheila, I was so sorry to hear this. Even though he was special to many of us I know he held a very special place in your heart, in particular. When he was traveling I always thought of him channeling Bill Bryson. I'll miss him. So sad...

don't know Roger but anyone who died that is mourned by someone is needing our attention.

I am always deeply saddened when we are notified of a poster's passing. Never met the majority of them, but they have been a part of my waking hours of entertainment and will be missed. Condolences to his family.

Oh dear, that is sad news indeed.

I like to think of him watching the whales from his lovely retirement home in California, as he planned his next train trip into Scotland. What a sweet man he was.

Very sad, he seemed like a very interesting guy. I remember his many posts on riding trains and public transport in the UK -- I've saved quite a few of them for future reference.

Sad news indeed. Rodger was one of my favorite posters. I always enjoyed hearing about his train trips. Rodger had a penchant for traveling to places other than the "must sees and must do", preferring the less traveled road and a more intimate experience with the local culture. Rodger was, IMO, a traveler rather than a tourist. I will miss him as I'm sure many others will also.

Oh no, that is such sad news. His attention to detail was amazing and his reports a joy to read. He had the extraordinary skill of making you feel you were part of his adventure. I so well remember one report of his train travels around the Scottish borders and north of England. It was a masterpiece. Thank you Sheila for letting us know.

Sheila, I hope you're copying this thread for Julie. I think she'd love to know Roger is remembered so fondly.
