A room with a view in Istanbul?
Planning a four-night stay in Istanbul next summer for just DH and me. We definitely want to be in Sultanahmet, walking distance to most of the major sights, and would prefer to keep it under $200 per night if possible. I know most of the rooms are small in that area, and that's not a problem, but we would like a king bed and a nice view from the room, preferably with a balcony and a roof terrace serving breakfast and drinks. Would love recommendations not only on hotels, but also on specific rooms that might fit the bill. Thanks in advance.

The only hotel that I can think of that would have some sort of view from a room in Sultanahmet is the Mavi Ev, which is across the road from the Blue Mosque.
There are other small hotels that have views of the water from a rooftop terrace, such as Angels' Home Hotel. I think Sari Konak also has views of the water from a rooftop terrace.
If you really want astounding views of the Bosphorus from your room, you should stay at the Ritz-Carlton. But, obviously, the cost could be a problem.
Tschuss,
Pippy

We satyed at the Tan Hotel a relatively new hotel with a very accomodating staff. And while our room did not have a view, the top floor where you have your complimentary has a spectacular view, especially on the open terrace.

The Penthouse suite @ the Zoe fits your needs except for the price. A 'funky' kind of room but the balcony is superb. Staff & breakfast etc is good & the hotel is very well located near the sites & restaurants etc. The killer is the stairs. You will curse the stairs after a long day of walking Istanbul. You will also curse the morning call to prayer from the mosque a block away . . .
But I would stay there again.

We haven't stayed there yet, but we're booked into the Dersaadet next spring. It has rooms filling your requirements generally (not sure about balconies). www.hoteldersaadet.com

I stayed at the Mavi Ev (Blue House) hotel in Sultanahmet just last month (Sept. 2011). I had the suite, which with a cash discount was 225 euro...a bit outside your price range. The view of the Blue Mosque was drop dead breathtaking though! And I actually enjoyed the call to prayer wakeup at sunrise (and I am so NOT a morning person). It made me realize what an exotic and special place I was in. The Mavi Ev does have lower floor rooms that would have pretty much this same view...you can check out the prices. The convinience couldn't be beat, the staff was terrific and they have an elevator.

We stayed at the Dersaadet last October in a corner suite room. It was quite large and comfortable. It had a street view but I believe the Penthouse suite has sea views.
It has a rooftop terrace bar with lovely views where breakfast is served and drinks later in the day.
We enjoyed this hotel for it's friendly service and especially location. Close to everything.
