A restauratuer in Italy

I am traveling to Italy in June with my husband and two sons. We are Californians in the restaurant business and love good food! Where should we just not miss? We will be starting in Nice to Cinque Terre, Rome, Tuscany and Venice. For me, traveling is all about the food and the people that prepare it! Thanks for your help.

When are you leaving? We are also in the restaurant business. DH is from Florence. We like La Grappia for Pizza along the Arno River, Ristorante Garga on Via del Bosco (i think) and sadly the best places that we knew of have closed down or been taken over my new owners. This we discoverd last year. Plenty of room for new favorites. Good luck and check out postings from a good man named Ira.
Have a great trip. BTW if you go to Venice be sure to eat at "Madonna".

Thank you for the kind words, Calamari.

Hi MH,

In Florence, Il Ritrovo Via de? Pucci 4/A Best food for the price
Full dinner w/wine abt $40 pp Closed Monday
From Pzza San Giovani (NW corner of the Pza del Duomo) walk one blk East to Via dei Martelli. Go left to Via dei Pucci. Turn Right. Look very carefully on left. No sign. Door could be locked. Ring bell.

In Venice,

Alla Madonna, near the Rialto Bridge

Da Fiore is thought by many to be the best restaurant in Venice

Since you are making this a foodie tour, I suggest you skip Nice (and even the CT).

From Rome, stop in Orvieto and go to
I Sette Consoli Pzza Sant?Angelo 1A phone/fax 011 39 0763 343911, one of the best restaurants in Italy.

On the way to Venice, stop in Bologna.

Da Cesarina, across the piazza from San Stefano.

Nuovi Notai (Via de' Pignattari 1)

Great gelato at Gelateria Moline, Via delle Moline 13

Tamborini for cheeses, salumi, etc.

Enjoy your trip.

I've been to TRATTORIA DA RUGGERO in Florence - Address: Via Senese 89R
Tel: (055) 220 542(close by Porta Romana and ancient walls). Price: around 40/45 €
Home-made cuisine with an extra touch.
Reservation is suggested, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.
I had wonderful scaloppine with artichokes and very good T-bone steak.
It's full of Italians!!!!

mharrigan7986,

I highly recommend "La Chaumiere", a restaurant about six miles east of Nice. It serves Provencal-style food grilled to perfection in the main dining room's fireplace! Appetizers consist of gorgeous fresh vegetables from their garden, and homemade tapenades. Desserts were killer. Plus, the place is a real scene. When we were last there, we spotted Roger Moore and entourage, as well as a French celeb who we did not recognize. Really a lot of fun.

Address: La Chaumiere
384, Boulevard, de l'Observatoire
06300 Nice, France

Fax: 330493769388

The restaurant is very popular, and is also a small hotel, so I would recommend getting in touch with them asap
