St. Cirq: I looked on Autoeurope's website. We need a car for four adults and luggage renting on a Friday afternoon, returning on Sunday morning (originally) The only car that would comfortably hold the load was the Audi A4 and it was $418 inclusive.

I believe the cost is related to only two days on the weekend. I've since revised my itinerary plans to arrive on Friday the 22nd, rent the car and head to Caen or Bayeux. Would do the beaches and Caen/Bayeux then head to MSM. Monday would head to Giverny/Vernon. Return the car on Tuesday and head to the apartment for another week. Rental price for this plan is $368 for an Renault Scenic. Still not sure if taking the train out to Caen wouldn't be easier, just renting a car there and returning it in Paris.

Any thoughts?

Try renting from AutoEurope in France or England instead of the US site.

We rented a car at CDG after an all night trip from the US. We drove to Giverny and looked around Claude Monet's gardens (took the "back" way from CDG) and then drove to Bayeux. My husband was driving - we stopped about 45 minutes from Bayeux for him to take a power nap (15 minutes). In hindsight we wouldn't have done Giverny - we would have gone straight to Bayeux. Just listen to your body and pull over for a nap if you need it.

We had 4 people and I was also finding the car rental fees very high - until I started searching on autoeurope.fr. Click on my name for the description of our experience renting from them (very good and saved us a lot of money).
