A place to stay in France just outside Geneva
After leaving Beaune we are considering driving to a spot just outside Geneva to spend the night and visit with some friends. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we might stop for this one night?

You might consider the Château de Divonne, in Divonne-les-Bains, just across the French border. It's worth the splurge, and there's a fine restaurant in the château. Rooms are beautiful, as are the grounds.

Where do your friends live? Immediate French neighboring towns (Gaillards, Annemasse - south of Geneva and Ferney-Voltaire - north of G. ) may not be very interesting but that might be ok with you just for one night and just for the convenience of meeting your friends. Otherwise, besides Underhill's suggestion 4*(Divonne 10 km from Geneva), I could add Château de Coudrée 4* right on the southern shore of Léman Lake if 25 km is not too far.

Thanks for the replys. Our friends live in Geneva and we are trying to arrange to meet them somewhere for dinner. It appears there are some good options for this and will suggest to them the Chateau de Divonne or Coudree.

Why not in Geneva as your friends live in Geneva?
I thought you wanted a place to sleep. If it's dinner try also Ferme de l'Hopital in Bossey. They had (probably still have) Michelin 1 star but the quality vs price was so good (multi course menus from CHF65.00) here at least until two years ago when I dined there last time. Reservation is a must. Also this one is right after the border from Veyrier (Haute-Savoie) side of Geneva much closer than Divonne or Coudree.
Of course your friends should have other ideas. Why don't you ask them?
