A nice hotel in Nice for one night!!
Hi all, we have had a change of plans and due to train timetables from Italy we have decided to stay in Nice for one night (2nd June 08), we will collect a car the next day and head into Provence. Can anyone suggest a hotel in the general vicinity of the railway for less than US$150. It doesn't need to be fancy, just clean and comfortable.thanks, Cathie

The Mercure Grimaldi is an easy walk or short taxi ride from the Nice train station and has doubles on your date for 100 euros per night.
It's bland (don't confuse it with the much prettier Le Grimaldi hotel up the street), but the rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and the staff are nice. Several restaurants close to the hotel.

Thank you for the suggestions, Mercure Grimaldi seems to be in the process of being renovated and the reviews aren't great at the moment, so I looked on venere.com (which I had forgotten about) and we have booked the Hotel Lausanne Nice Centre 94 euros which looks ok and the reviews say it is clean and comfortable which is all we need. Thanks again, Cathie

Hi Artlover, thanks for the tip re the Windsor Hotel, it looks a lovely hotel to spend a few days and I will keep it in mind for another trip, but this time we will be collecting the car early in the morning and not hanging around Nice. thanks, Cathie
