A Day In Frankfort?

Four of us will be stuck in the Frankfort Airport from 8 AM till our flight at 10:30 PM. Do you know of any tour companies that could pick us up & tour the old town with maybe lunch? We usually have a short connection here but headed to Botswana, it's very long. Just looking for something to do. Help

You don't need a "tour company", for goodness sake. Take the S-bahn direct to the "Frankfurt Sud" station and walk north toward the river; you'll be in old town Sachsenhausen after a few minutes' walk. Stau away from the Apple wine, no matter what anyone says.

With such a long time, I'd also recommend a trip to Mainz - 20 minutes from the airport and a good city for walking, with an attractive old town, nice pedestrian zones with shops, and a pretty city park, a lot better than old town Frankfurt, IMO - and/or a train trip up the Rhine to Koblenz and back to see the pretty Rhine Gorge, Loreley, and the many castles in between Bingen and Koblenz.

I would definitely head out of Frankfurt for the Rhine. I had a car so not sure about train connections but went to Rudesheim and from there took a Rhine boat tour hopping on/off at various towns (St. Goar, in particular, is great). However, have you looked at the Frankfort city website? I would guess there are tours offered.

I once ended up unexpectedly in Frankfurt for a day. So we took a half-day bus tour of Frankfurt, which was actually very interesting and charming. Then you could go into the city center and shop & eat. Just my 2 cents...depends how much or how little you want to do.

I second the motion. Definately Mainz.

Several trains a day arrive and depart the Frankfort airport station to this city a mere stones throw away. Actually you would have to throw several stones but what's 20 minutes on the train? While in the service stationed near Frankfort a bunch of us took the train to Mainz one Sunday and there hopped aboard a Rhine river excursion boat and had ourselves a wunderbar day. If you don't have to be back at the airport til 8 or 9pm for check in for your flight you will have ample time for this.

To me Frankfurt is the Cleveland of Germany. The city is all business.

If you do decide to tour Frankfort may I suggest you have a couple of beers first and the city will then become whatever you want it to be.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It will be the train to Mainz or one of the smaller towns. We'll have to check--maybe Rudesheim or St Goar. Thanks again.
