A 2 week Itinerary for Germany, Austria & Switzerland.
Hi all, my husband and I are planning a 2 week trip to Germany, Austria & Switzerland. We will be flying into Munich and out of Geneva. Here is our rough itinerary
3 nights in Munich - Spend our time seeing the sights in Munich, going to Dachau. Renting a car and going heading to Neuschwanstein for a day. Then off to Salzburg
3 nights in Salzburg. Here we would like to see Salzburg, take a drive through Grossglockner. Then drive to Luzern, stopping off in Innsbrook for a few hours.
2 nights in Luzern
4 nights in the BOB area basing ourselves in Wengen. I definitely want to take a day trip to Zermatt
2 nights in Geneva.
Does this sound to ambitious. I have done a lot of searching on this forum and have narrowed down our original itinerary. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would urge 3 and a half in
Munich, two and a half in Salzburg - - in other words, leave late on day 4 to drive to Salzburg. It's still three nights n each city, but day 1 inMunich will be less energy-charged, asuming that you are arriving by trans-atlantic fight.
And you realize, I trust, that you are likely to face a hefty drop charge to return a German car in Switzerland.

Unless you love the city life, why Geneva?
You'll have plenty of exposure to cities in Munich and Salzburg, and even a smaller city like Luzern. (I've never been to Wengen)
It seems to me that your itenary would be very appropriate for someone travelling by train. With a car there are just so many other places for you to go to.
I usually run from the cities. And now, especially, with the high cost to buy a Euro, I would much rather explore the smaller towns along the way.
I guess that if cities are your thing, that's a great itenary. If out of the way places are your thing, then re-consider.
Have a great trip. It'll be fun regardless of where you end up going.

Thanks for the advice, we are not arriving on a transatlantic flight. We will be arriving from Ireland, so we won't be jetlagged.
I knew about the drop off charge, it is 180 Euro. Is there no charge if you rent in Salzburg and drop off in Germany? If not, then I will reverse the 1st half of the trip since I haven't booked the airfare yet.
As far as Geneva is concerned, I would leave it out, but the husband wants to go. I already convinced him to leave off Zurich in favor of more time in BOB and Luzern.
