9 days in Italy Help
Can someone help me. I have tickets to Amstradam in March. I would like to buy a connecting flight to Italy. I am traveling with my husband.
I would like to see Capri very much. I am also open to other places, too. Three destinations would be at most.
I have been blessed to see Venice 2X, Lake Como 1, Milan 2X, Bologna 1, Florence 3 or 4x, Rome 1, and Potenza 1.
As you can see I have been there, but never saw the sea side. At all. Any sugestion you could give would be very kind.
All the best.

Dahliak - Of the budget airlines:
Basiq Air flies Amsterdam-Naples
http://www.basiqair.com/
Virgin Express flies to Rome
http://www.virginexpress.com/
Alitalia and KLM will be your other main options of course.
If you've never been to the Amalfi Coast (- the most spectacular coastline in Europe IMO), that combines well with Capri. So many wonderful sights to see in that area ...
You could also spend more time in Rome - or travel further afield. What are your interests? And how much time do you have?

Hi dahlia,
March is a bit early for Capri and the AC, but the scenery will still be gorgeous.
How about
Fly into Naples, 3-4 days
daytrips to Pompeii and Paestum
Capri 2-3 days
Positano or Praiano 4-3 days?
You might find my trip report helpful

Hi Patrick,
We recently spent 3 days in Naples. I think that it is underrated, which is why I suggested it instead of Sorrento.
Sorrento is not exactly acoastal village. What would you get from Sorrento and Positano that you don't get from Naples and Positano?

Thank you all for the input.
I have already checked out Basiq Air as (Steve James) mentioned and you are right. They have great prices to Naples, and a direct flight; if I may add. Our interests are Art, culture, food, wine and Ice cream of Italy.
Ira, I have heard that indeed it is too early to visit Capri or AC in March, Why? Can you advise. Also how far is Naples from Capri? From what I have heared that it is reachable by ferry ONLY. If so how long does it take? How much? The same goes for Positano or Sorrento. I read up on your excursion of 21 days in Italy. What a great and informative explanation. Thank you for sharing every detail. I itching to ask if you conduct private tours.

We were on the Amalfi Coast in March a few years ago and will be there again the end of March, and this time, we plan on going to Capri.
It was delightful. There were no crowds and the drive was a breeze because of so little traffic.
The weather was around 65-70 and sunny...definitely not beach weather but great for sightseeing.
Note that not everything is open in March. For instance, some hotels did not open until April. But that may or not be a factor for you.
And you might want to consider Pompeii or Herculeneum or Paestrum as well.

Hi dahliak
Lorac has replied to the question about March.
If you go to this link, you will find all of the ways to get to the AC (about the bottom).
There are ferries and hydrofoils to Capri from Naples and Sorrento (perhaps from Positano, too).
The March schedule is less frequent and subject to the weather.
I suggest you ask whichever hotel you are considering to give you the schedules.
If you would be willing to pay my expenses, (air fare, hotel, meals and incidentals) I would be happy to meet you in Italy and give you a *free* guided tour.

Since I have never actually stayed in Naples (but will be for two nights in May) maybe I'm being unfair. But I'd sure call Sorrento more of a coastal village than Naples. Naples is definitely a CITY, not a village, anyway you slice it.
I think transportation from Sorrento for day trips is just easier than from Naples.
And yes, I'm taking into account all the people who say they hate Naples, but the very few who don't like Sorrento. I tend to like cities over villages and maybe I'll like Naples more than I did in my one hectic day trying to find my way around there.
I get the impression that dhliak is looking for for a base to stay and do day excursions from -- maybe not.
Sorrento seems more of a place for a casual stroll at night and finding a nice relaxing place to eat, or sitting on a hotel terrace looking out into the bay without all the noise and traffic. The sights of Naples are easily done in the day by going across from Sorrento. I just think that as a night time base, Sorrento is much more relaxed, peaceful, and "dreamy" than busy and hectic Naples.

Patrick, you are absolutely right. I want a base and day trips to other attractions and sites.
Ira, If I had the money I would take you. You are definitely a choice.
Since I have 9 days only. I have decided that I will stay 7 days in either Sorrento, Capri of Postiano. Not sure. Then 2 nights in Rome.
I am on a budget for a $150 a night for a room. Any suggestions. The most important thing for me is a room with a sea view and a small balcony.

I wouldn't spend the entire week in Sorrento. You'd get more of a feel for the flavor of the area if you split up your time. My suggestion:
3 nights Sorrento
with daytrip to Pompeii
hydrofoil to Capri
1 night Capri
hydrofoil or reg. boat service to Positano
3 nights Positano
day trips to: Amalfi, Ravello
In Sorrento, IL NIDO is within your budget and has gotten very good reviews here on the forum from other posters.
In Capri, there's VILLA KRUPP and VILLA SARAH, which should be within budget.
In Positano, I don't have a recommendation in that budget, but if you check previous posts, you may find some recommendations.
Good luck, and have a great trip!

Hi dahlia,
I meant to give you this link
Helpful Information: Italy http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34443340
We stayed at the hotel Le Sirene in Praiano in room 12, with a beautiful view of the Sirene islands. It's the same view you get from Le Sireneuse in Positano, but you get to see Positano.
