Hi biskut,
the obvious area to visit as you are hikers is the Cinque Terre.
Train from Pisa to La Spezia. Then a train to any of the 5 villages that make up the CT.

I realize you are doing this on your own, but if you want to do hiking, it might be helpful to look at the itineraries of some well established walking tour companies. Try ATG (Alternative Travel Group-Oxford). They put out a detailed catalogue and I think you may be able to figure out from their descriptions and the diagrams of their daily routes where their walks are. It may give you some good ideas re where to hike and how long the hikes might be. I'm not sure whether they do the Pisa area, but they might.

biscut,
my trip to Italy this July will only be my second time in Italy....
would love to say that I am full of info but I am not...
the chaps on this site have got a lot of info if you ask specific questions.
Will you have a car for the 2 weeks or will you be using train and bus???
If you do have a car..Tuscany will be yours for the taking.

biskut,
look up the michelin web site. You can plan your day trips and get driving instructions which also have the approx time it takes to reach your destination.
The other thing is to spend time researching on the web and books about the area your staying in. I have a AA road atlas of italy which is also helpful.
