7hr Transit in Frankfurt

Hello,

We will be transiting through the Frankfurt airport next February.. We have a 7 hour lay over. We are arriving on United from the USA (Dulles, Washington DC) and flying out on Luftanza to Cairo, Egypt. We were hoping to spend around 4 hours at the My Cloud transit hotel (It is in Terminal 1, next to gate Z25) Has anyone stayed there? Comments, suggestions? Also will we need to go through passport control as we plan to stay in the transit area and are coming from, and going to, a non-Schengen area. Any advice / comments greatly appreciated. Thank you.

7 hours in T1 non-schengen area sounds like a prison sentence to me. As a general rule, there is no passport control if you don't leave the transit area. Depending on your nationality a transit visa may be required. But with 7 hours how does it matter? For me, a US citizen, passport control in Germany is a very quick, hassle free process.

If this were my trip I'd use some of those 7 hours to actually get out of the airport, take a quick train into Frankfurt or Mainz, or otherwise get out of the airport...
