7 nites in Budapest too long?
Seven nights in Budapest? Is that too long?
We are travelling from Venice by train or plane? Travel party hates to schlep, so is wary of Train trip...
Train:
I think it would be cool to see Libujnia (sp), Slovenia for 3 nights (day trip to Blad or somewhere), bypass Zagreb and head on to Budapest for 4 or 5 nites.
Plane:
Long time in Budapest, I think? But i don't know, I'll be in Prague for 9 days after, and having been there, know it is not enough time for me there.
Thanks,
Oh yeah, this is a last minute complete turnaround of trip plans. this is for July 9 to the 17.

Not to me it isn't. There's LOTS to see and do here- thermal baths, casinos, wine-tastings, great restaurants, antique coffeehouses, classical music concerts in ancient churches, opera-many places of interest for sightseeing-particularly their Parliament building-just to name a few things.
I spent 5 days there, and I didn't nearly see everything I wanted. Make sure and go to the wine tasting cellar that is attached to the Hilton on Gellert Hill-fantastic experience of going down in the ruins of a real former monastery, down the winding stairs, and then seeing this small ancient room filled with candles and New Age music and lots of lovely lovely red and white Hungarian wine to taste for about a 1.50 for a small glass! Great city, great vibe.

To see Budapest and surrounding area proper, I think 7 nights is not too long at all, as Budapest is larger than Prague, and nearby Szentendre, Visegrad, Esztergom and Vac are all ideal for daytrips.
Certainly Ljubljana is inteesting also, but it will take 8 hours to Budapest by train, perhaps it would be more enjoyable to spend the whole time in Hungary.
It is quite easy to take the frequent train from Vienna to Budapest (city centre to city centre), in January this year, I bought the ticket at Westbahnhof 10 minutes before the train departure. For train timetable, please check:www.bahn.de.

This is all I needed. I love Prague for all the same reasons you mentioned for Budapest.
That's why I'm going back to Prague, for 9 nites. I'm a photographer/professor and I don't like the monkey on my back.
so ok.
Any itineraries ya'll can suggest would be deeply appreciated. for a 7 or 8 nite stay there.
I think an apartment would be a good idea.
Any areas particular you would recommend?
Art, coffee shops, fun taverns for adult cocktails -- i.e. no disco, party animal stuff. We're in our late 40's, not on the hunt.Gardens, etc...River trips, best drive day trips...
We love architecture; we're not making a pilgrimage of historic sites but certainly welcome learning about Hungary.
Ya'll could really make my day with a helpful post like the last. I'm frantically reading other posts now. well not right this minute cuz i'm writing one myself....
July 10 is very very close.
Thanks,
Jackie

We spent 5 nights in Budapest in June and really loved it!! Consider using SkyEurope airline to connect Venice and Budapest. We flew from Budapest to Dubrovnik on them for $50 each and it was flawless! They have quite a good network of cities and a great web site for booking tickets.
