"Stick a couple of quid in the poor box and everyone's happy." That was my next question, thanks CW.

tahl, I'm reading "Daughter of Time" by Tey on the plane tonight (YIKES I'M NOT READY). Now I'll HAVE to go to Minster Lovell!

As C_W has already said, be sure and put a couple of pds. in the donation box. These churches are expensive to maintain and while many a tourist will easily part with 16/17 quid for a visit to Leeds (heaven forbid) or Warwick Castle, they frequently overlook the fact that visitng/viewing a church is much the same.

tahl: "<i>and then the view -- pow!! Totally breathtaking on a drizzly gloomy day like I saw it on last year.</i>"

Our day wasn't gloomy drizzly - but more Rain/showers/sunshine -- and just as we were getting ready to leave the skies opened up. So we ended up sitting it out under the covered Archway. It was sad that 1/2 of our group never saw a bit of it . . . . .

Someone up above asked about my photos - I have LOTS (nearly 150 just at Chelsea) but they aren't on-line. I've used Photobucket a couple of times but find it a really futzy/difficult site. Maybe I should try Flickr or ?? Any suggestions?

janis:

I've been very satisfied with Google's Picasa...easy to use editing functions, can make a poor pic into a very good one.
(And as a rank amateur, this is important to me)!

Superb report...as you can tell by the 204 positive responses. I've been following whenever I can.

Thanks for your time and outstanding effort. SCQ will be proud of you...maybe.

I've finally caught up with the rest of your report, janis. I'm glad things went a little smoother near the end. Like many others I can't believe you ended up on the couch! You did take these ladies on a great trip- hopefully you have a nice (solo?) trip planned for yourself soon.

janisj - really enjoyed your report. I'm a big fan of Flickr, since it not only means people can view my photos (if I set it as such), but also that my photos are stored full size somewhere other than my house. The free account has a limited number of pictures that you can actually see (you can upload as many as you want, but only the most recent 200 appear). But the Pro account with unlimited pictures is just $25/year, which I happily pay due to the backup aspect. You can also order prints online and either have them mailed to you or pick them up at Target. It's all easy.

Flickr and Picasa are both really easy to use. My England pictures are on Picasa:

Your trip report is amazing...and one of the reasons I am always so intimidated into not writing one...I just can't write this well.

Your report has convinced me to include the area in our list of potential house rental areas for two weeks next June/July. May have some questions for you if the group votes for it (which I am sure they will after I print this off for them!)

<B>als0107</B>: Thanks for the kind words !

Don't worry about meeting some "trip report standard of excellence". TR's come in all shapes and sizes and styles. People enjoy reading all types of reports. And you'll find that writing one lets you re-live your trip a bit (Of course, I don't necessarily want to re-live some of THIS particular trip )

Wonderful report Janis. We are going to some of the same places in October so this is very handy. I'm glad you used the Hertz in Oxford as I had seen that & thought it sounded like the best option.
Regards,
Karen

I'm just finishing reading and enjoying your report. I've been to Hawaii for ten days, and then my computer, to quote my guru, "fried something in the motherboard." I had to buy a new one and get it programmed, so I am sadly behind in the Forum, never to catch up, I fear, but I'm missing London and glad to read of your eventful trip.

cobbie: The Hertz location in Kidlington is REALLY convenient if you are heading north or northwest-ish. It is between the Banbury and Woodstock roads so you don't have to drive IN Oxford at all. But it is 5 or 6 miles from central Oxford/train station/bus station.

Welcome back carolyn - Hawaii! - lucky you

quick update for those who thought I was a wee bit abused

Ta Da! - I just got a nice thank you e-mail from one of the girls (not SCQ . . )

"<i>Although I am late it is no less sincere that I want to Thank you for organizing our trip to Europe. I certainly enjoyed it and having the chance to see so many things. Especially attending the Theater, riding the Eye and staying in the cottage just to mention a few of the sights.

It was an easy trip for me since you made all the arrangement.</i>"

It's good to hear you've received a well deserved thanks. I'm sure all of the ladies enjoyed themselves and appreciate your efforts (except maybe SCQ, but she's mental)

Lee Ann- your pictures are great and the descriptions are so informative!

Oooh - another Josephine Tey fan! Pity there are so few books from her. Are you a Sayers and Allingham fan, too?
