6 days in Late October for maximum Europe travel

My husband and I have 6 days, not including travel days, in late October to travel in Europe. We have been pondering Amsterdam, Belgium and/or Paris, but are open to suggestions (we had considered Austria as well). We would like to combine some historical sites, a few museums and plenty of walking and dining in cafes, etc. We are open to multiple locales but don't want to overdo the travel time, and we have a flexible budget.

Thanks for helping us!

Stay in Paris the whole time. You can day trip to Versailles or Chartres if you wish to get out of the city. Any movement from city to city and you will likely waste a whole day packing/train/check in/etc. I would also suggest staying in Rome.

Yes you could stay in almost any European city for a week and not exhaust the possibilities, but it would also be easy in that time to split between two cities, for example Amsterdam and Paris or London and Paris or Munich and Paris, for the interest of the contrast, especially if you can avoid backtracking by getting an open jaw air ticket, into the one city and out of the other. No, you can't do everything in Paris in 3 days but you can't do everything in Paris in 6 days or 6 weeks either. Save something for next time!

I vote for Sicily - a mix of old Greece and charming modern-day Italy, the crowds have gone, the pace is relaxed, and a day-trip to Malta by ferry will add a touch of the exotic. Nothing wrong with Paris, but this is different.
