Somebody must celebrate it in Amsterdam, but you can be relatively sure that the rank an file Amsterdamian could care less.

Do you celebrate July 14?
I do. But my neighbors think I am nuts anyhow.

Well I would imagine that the US Consulate General in Amsterdam will be having a 4th of July celebration. By invitation only.

Other then that unless one has friends, or friends of friends that are US citizens I would assume any celebration would have to be a private one.

Only other thought I could think of is if there are some US citizens that have a cafe or pub in Amsterdam and consequently hold their own celebration.

donnae_b's question is not as naive as some responders suggest. Though a different country, there is a celebration in Rebild, Denmark on July 4th every year.

In 1912, some Americans of Danish origin purchased land in Rebild and gave it to the state on the condition that it become a national park and they would be allowed to celebrate American holidays there. It is the largest Independence Day celebration outside the US and thousands of Americans come every year. The park also contains a Lincoln Log Cabin.

A few years ago I was in London with a newbie-traveler friend over Thanksgiving week. She would not believe me at first when I told her they do not celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, as it's an American holiday. I don't know if the OP is a seasoned world traveler or not, but I think this type of misconception would be quite common among people who do not frequently travel across borders.

I do not wish to beat up the OP for asking, but instead I suggest s/he be advised to consider the difference between a national holiday and a religious one. As many of us know, religious holidays are generally celebrated on the same day in many countries, while national holidays will stay within our borders.

Even though there won't be any fireworks on the 4th I still think it is a great and very walkable city and, of course, it has one of Europe's greatest museums.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the city and its many aspects as much as some of the rest of us so by all means go there.

you were given a good answer to your question ONCE. DO get in touch with the u.s. consulate/embassy and ask for the american/international club, or american women's club telephone number, or the number of an american school (if there is one).

since july 4th is a monday, there might be a party on saturday or sunday.

they will most certainly have a very fun picnic or dinner SOMEwhere, as most americans do worldwide on this date.

if you are in valencia.. be my guest.
we even have some ridiculously small fireworks for kicks.
