4 nights outside Dublin
We plan to spend two days at Dublin, and four nights outside the city by car. We like scenery and old villages and enjoy photography. No hiking.
Our trip is planned to late September, first day outside Dublin is friday.
Help in planning our route will be appreciated.

I would suggest spending 2 days south of dublin in Wicklow touring Glendalough, Powerscourt, checking out some of the coastal villages.
Then 2 days north of dublin and tour newgrange/knowth, hill of tara , monasterboice, mellifont abbey, trim castle, and towns in/around boyne valley

For scenery you have to go to the west coast – anywhere, but my favourites are Mayo and the Dingle peninsula. You won't have time for both so:
For Mayo drive to Galway then on to Leenane. The drive from Leenane to Louisburg is my favorite stretch of scenery - no sea just very close mountains and some lakes. Stay in Westport and from there you can visit Achill Island (by road), Clare Island by boat (20 minutes) or drive to Belmullet via Ballycroy.
For the Dingle Peninsula - drive to Dingle (An Daingean) via the Connor Pass from Tralee - note signs are in Irish while your map will be in English! Stay in Dingle and visit Slea head. You could come back via West Cork and stay in Kinsale for some good food. Then on to Dublin

Killarney is the major tourist area outside Dublin and with the tourist season winding down it is a lovely place to visit. The place to see though is not the town itself (except for night life and shopping)but the National Park on the outskirts. You can also do the Ring of Kerry which is 100 miles of mostly beautiful scenery along lakes, mountains and sea. Best driven I think clockwise as you will have a better view of the Atlantic.Other places to stay in the area include Kenmare (from where you can also visit Beara Peninsula or Hook Head) and you may even spend a day in Dingle Peninsula.Leave Dublin early-preferably by 6.30am -to avoid the traffic if possible and get back to the city after 8pm for the same reason. You can see a great deal in 4 days and I would go for it.
