Mark- the Alstadt is a 4* pension about 5-6 blocks outside of the ring road.
Rathauspark is a 4* hotel in the same neighborhood but several blocks closer to the center of things. Both are under $150 for a double according to my info.
e-mail
[email protected]
[email protected]
Wear a warm coat and enjoy-
We are happily returning to Vienna after a wonderful week stay five years ago. We stayed before and luckily will again at the Konig von Ungarn, a wonderful small hotel (not sure of number of stars, 3 or 4). We will be paying about $165 per night in July, so assume it would be less off season. It is practically in the shadow of the cathedral. I think I found a web site on search for the hotel, but have lost track of it. It's a sort of old villa built around a courtyard which has been glassed over, balconies inside looking down to the courtyard and all the rooms off it -- sort of an old world Hyatt Regency. Our room was huge and wonderful with a walk-in closet we could have slept in, wonderful furnishings and decor, super staff. Do you get the idea we liked it???

Look at www.nethotels.com/koenig_von_ungarn I just checked however and the rate is same year round, 2350 ATS or about $165.00. I know they don't pay commission to travel agents and don't normally discount, so that is pretty much it -- they stay fully booked all year.

I stayed at the Caledonia a few years back and will return in March. They have terrific winter rates and top-notch service, a lovely breakfast and several extras including a boat trip to the islands. They have a website which you can find with any search engine. Good luck and have fun.
