In the immediate area of Vernegues you can visit the villages of Lourmarin, Lambesc, Salon, of course, and the Chateau of Barben (it has a great private zoo, too).

Heading North, you can take the highway (A7) - get off at the Avignon Sud exit and go east into the Luberon - l'Isle sur la Sorgue, Gordes, Rousillon, then loop around through Bonnieux, Lacoste, Menerbes and back into Cavaillon, where you can pick up the highway back south.
You can also get into Avignon itself from this exit (Avignon Sud).

Heading west, you're only about 35 - 40 minutes from Les Baux and St. Remy. Another 20 and you can visit the Abbaye de Montmajour and on into Arles. A longer drive from Salon- about an hour and a half - to Pont du Gard and Uzes.

PB
WE just came back from 10 days - 3 of which we spent in Provence based outside of Avignon.
With 4 days, and some energy, you can push to see everything wonderful you always read about...
OK, well, not EVERYTHING...you have to leave some stuff for next time...

We made a trip one day towards Rousillion, Bonnieux, and all of those little towns...as well as a neat little bridge from like 3C called Pont Julien...and then one day we drove towards Carpentras, Vaison la Romaine, and Mount Ventoux...then went to Orange...and then down towards Pont du Gard...
You can really travel quickly on the autoroute- or even the smaller roads...
GOod luck!
