Wanted to stay at the Alfonso XIII in Seville, but sold out for our dates. Looking for a 4 or 5 star property in a central location such as the Santa Cruz area. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Take a look at Casa Romana Hotel... It's a small 4-star hotel, just 26 rooms, with some local character set in a central location.

Bummer that the Alfonso XIII is sold out, I stayed there and it's marvelous! Check back with them periodically to see if they have any cancellations.

What are your dates? For an excellent 4-star you can check out the 5-star Alma Sevilla Palacio-De-Villapanes in barrio Santa Cruz. It's well worth the cost.

That should be for an excellent 5-star property. Much better than the Alfonso XIII.

Thank you everyone for your help. Was trying for the Alfonso XIII because it is a Starwood property and would have loved to use points for free nights. In the meantime, The Alma Sevilla Palacia de Villapanes (whew!!) looks perfect and I am going to book it. Great suggestion, Robert!

While you are In Seville, go over to the Alphonso and ask if you can look inside a guest room whether they say (now) that it is booked or not. IMO the rooms and their decorations, particularly the ceilings are what makes the place special.

A lot of folks hate the place but we enjoyed our stay there.

Thanks Dukey--good suggestion. We are actually on a wait list for the Alfonso, so maybe something will open up between now and next September. I know that many of the tour group operators book large blocks of rooms and then release if they don't use them all.
