3 weeks in italy-need help!!

i definitely want to go to rome and palermo---where should i go in between?
i will fly into rome and then straight to palermo to spend a week or so.....and end in rome for a week to then fly home....here are my questions:

1--should i do another part of sicily for the 2nd week?then fly back to rome for week 3?
2-- or go from palermo to rome--stopping where along the way? amalfi coast/naples? how do i get there? ferry? train?
3---or fly from palermo to milan, train to venice then train to rome--is this too much? and how long is the train from venice to rome?
4--this will be my first trip to italy but not my last!! with that said, i want to see as much as i can this round comfortably---i don't mind moving around but i don't want to overdue it!......i am open to suggestions but they must include palermo first week and rome for the 2nd or 3rd week -thanks!

Hi 2006,

When are you going? If you have 3 weeks, I would definitely recommend doing more than 2 major cities the whole time.

Hi 2,

In that case, fly into Palermo, fly to Venice.

See www.whichbudget.com

Split the week between Venice (3 nights) and Florence (3 nights).

Train to Rome.

Fly home.

See www.trenitalia.com for train schedules.

Enjoy your visit.
