Hi everyone,

Can anyone suggest accommodation in Dublin for three nights in August? I'm looking for a reasonably central location with breakfast included. Has anyone stayed at the Ormond Quay, the Clarion, Lynhams or the Arlington? I'm not sure what the locations of these places are like (travelling alone and needing a safe location), but most are within my budget. As I've only three days to explore Dublin, somewhere close to the city centre would be preferable.

The Fitzwilliam Hotel on St. Stephens Green is an excellent hotel in a fabulous. central location..perfect for a short stay.

Thanks JuneAnn. Will check it out. I heard that the Arlington was in the red light district...yikes. I also read here that it's best to stay south of the river if you want to go out at night. I certainly don't want to be limited to my hotel after dark. Maybe I'll limit my accommodation searches to this area. Thanks again.

Jurys Hotel Group has several hotels in Dublin and sometimes offers bargains on their website at www.jurys.com. I believe that business is slack at their 4 and 5 star hotels which means that they occasionally offer relatively better value than their 3-star inns.

The Fitzwilliam is way above the hotels mentioned and very expensive. I would say:

Jurys ChristChurch or the IFSC
Handels - Fishamble Street - Quiet end of Temple Bar
Parliament Hotel - Lord Edward Street
Georgian Hotel Baggot Street
Russel Court - Harcourt Street
Harcourt - Harcourt Street
Alecamder Hotel - Fenian Street
Mespil Hotel - Ballsbridge


Ormond Quay will be noisy with Traffic and later at nght I am not happy about yop walking alone as a tourist.

Lynhams - Never hears of

Clarion Is this by the IFSC? Then its fine

Arlington - No its smack in the middle of temple bar and will be VERY noisy and full of Stags at the weekends

What are you looking to pay per night?

Lynams is not in a good location either for walking at night - it's on O'Connell Street close to the Parnell Square end.

You should definately go for somewhere south of the river. Somewhere within 10 minutes walk of Stephens Green/Grafton Street is usually a pretty safe bet (unless it's Temple Bar!). Baggot Street and Harcourt Street are the two I would recommend most.

The Fitzwilliam has a website where I found a very good B&B rate. I phoned the hotel and made my reservations that way. We had a wonderful room facing the park with a huge terrace. Breakfast was excellent. We don't usually dine in our hotels (other than breakfast) when we're in a city but the restaurant, food, service and prices were so good. The location was great and within walking distance of just about everything. The Hop on Hop off bus is on the corner. Fabulous pubs and shops are all around. Where ever you choose, I hope that you have a great trip.

If you can get the rate you want at the Jury's Christ Church, I would highly recommend it. It's in a very central location and I felt pefectly safe walking the area at night. Can't remember what the deal was with breakfast - I certainly wasn't up early enough that trip to partake.

JuneAnn, it is very expensive for a solo traveller (Well over €200 per night). They do good deals on Laterooms.com etc but its VERY pricey compared with the price range of the hotels she mentioned.

Jurys Ballsbridge is also a good one in a nice location with a bus across the road for toen (Approx a 5 minute bus ride).

Thank you so much everyone for your suggestions. Yes, travelling alone certainly does attract a higher room rate per person. I'm looking at paying around 130 Euro max. I can get a room at Jury's Christchurch for 117 Euro, which is acceptable. I'll check all of the other suggestions as well. Without this valuable information offered by everyone, I could've had a sleepless, miserable time in Dublin. Thanks once again. I'll let you know my final decision when made. Cheers
