3/4 * hotels in paris
I'm going to Paris for the first time in september. I am looking for nice 3or4 star hotels. I went crazy looking at the large number of hotels listed in various websites and I don't know which one to select. I'm willing to pay around $150. Can you please give me your suggestions and help , Please.....

Try this exercise, because September is usually very busy due to trade shows. Go to www.parishotels.com, and enter your criteria for hotels (dates, single or double, stars or prices, can't remember how it asks). It will give you a list of hotels that are AVAILABLE for your dates.
From that list, choose several in arrondissements 4, 5 or 6 (which are frequently recommended for first-time visitors b/c they are very central).
From your 'short list' do a search here in the forum and find some feedback to help narrow your choices further.
Then, come back and post again, asking for feedback on "Hotel xxx", if you still think you need it. Otherwise, just b/c someone recommends this or that hotel doesn't mean rooms will be available, and you will go in circles all over again.
Good luck and happy travels!

thanks a lot for your advice. I'm also new to Fodors. and from the first day I'm trying to find the SEARCH option in this site. - Is it this one - Text Search /type a word or phrase. and to the right of it there is a list of regions to select. It seems not working for me!

Hi
the Search function has worked for me today, in the little box you could type in Paris Hotel, and then choose France in the box to the right.
I don't think you are going to get a 4 star for $150, unless there's some special going go, maybe a single is possible at that price.
Here are some hotels to search on here and elsewhere. Also look for reviews under Hotels here at fodors, and by name at tripadvisor.com
Millesime
Muguet
Minerve
Libertel Bellechasse
La Turenne
Danube
Champs de Mars
Grandes Ecoles
Leveque
Villa Pantheon
Pantheon
Jardins de Luxembourg
Bonaparte
etc etc
I have a file on Paris; if you'd like to see it, email me at [email protected]

We stayed at the Hotel de Fleruie a couple of times and recommend it to others. Good location just off St. Germaine and close to Odeon metro station and bus stops on St.Germain.
Efficient and courteous staff who can help you with questions. Nice rooms with comfortable beds.

Hi JB
In using the search function "and" is important.
For example: if you wish to find a hotel in paris and enter "hotel in paris" in might tell you tht it can't find anything because it is looking for that exact phrase.
If you enter "Hotel AND Paris" it will give you all posts that have both words.

My thought is that the neighborhood you choose is way more important than the specific hotel!!
So as suggested already, work from some recommendations here, other Paris websites, guidebooks, then narrow down choices to ones in arrondisements numbered 4th (Marais), 5th (Latin Quarter), 6th (St. Germaine)... and maybe 7th (not sure name but where Eiffle Tower is).
If you don't have one already get a map so you understand how these numbers relate, and spiral out from the center of the city.
So once you've got your area decided (I'd pick Latin Quarter for a first trip), and you know your price and want 3/4 star, that will narrow things down at least a bit.

My wife and I were in Paris a few weeks ago. It was great. We stayed at hotel Madison in the Latin Quarter on St Germain Blvd, close to alot like the Louvre and Notre Dame. I recommend it.You can check the website. I think it is madison-hotel.com
