You save time taking the overnight train and if you get a private compartment - yes at a lot extra than a couchette type accommodation you could make it a rather romantic experience perhaps.

I've taken a zillion overnight trains in Europe and love them but some folks who are light sleepers may not. You are do enough train travel to look at a Eurail Select Saver Pass, valid in Benelux - Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg as one country for this, France, Switzerland and Italy. If over 25 it is only in first-class and on the trip of a lifetime I suggest splurging a bit - first-class is IME much more relaxed on the average than 2nd class - especially for folks carrying around perhaps too much luggage - lots more places to easily stow them in first class where there are often empty seats near me - 2nd class is often full or quite full.

First-class seats are bigger and there are less folks traveling in first class cars of the same-size as 2nd class - about 25% less and again IME usually lots of empty seats.

To me the Interlaken-Grindelwald area of Switzerland is the best bet for a first-timer wishing to see the high Alps and it is right on a main rail route Paris-Bern-Italy.

@palenq dang you read my mind! I was just gonna ask which city to visit in Switzerland cuz I heard great reviews of the country itself! I'm thinking typing to venice after Switzerland! Thanks for the great advice, appreciate it very much!
