after a 9 day walking trip beginning at Ennis, we will be finishing our trip with 2 days in Dublin. My cousin and I (bright, eager 69 year olds!) would like to stay at a place within reach of on/off bus for a tour, close to restaurants/shopping/pubs - but not a hotel that you can find anywhere, more of an inn or band b . Price around $200USD per night. Does anyone have any advice for us adventurous gals?

Dublin is an expensive city so you may need to up your budget and in any case start thinking in Euro not dollars of any kind

Must be something going on in Dublin. Buswells is normally not that high. Try Harding by Christ Church or Jury's Inn by Christ Church. There is a no frills Travelodge by St Stephen's Green.

Rates are VERY date/day specific -- I've seen Buswell's even higher. Have no idea when your trip is but I just plugged in a couple of 2 night weekend stays in June and July and the rates were well over €400 per night. Mid week around the same time, less than €250 per night. Buswell's is very nice but it is not an economy property any more.

ps: I wouldn't bother with the H-o-H-o bus . . . take that €€ and add it to your hotel budget. Better use of the money.

I am from Dublin, and here right now on holiday.

Re the HOHO bus. Dublin is tiny, and there is not one stop on that tour that you can't walk to, particularly as you are WALKERS! Truly, you don't even have to take a regular bus. My sister lives at the other end of Phoenix Park in Castleknock, and I have walked from her house into Grafton street several times.

Re hotels: Obviously I don't stay in hotels, but know the location of most and the amenities around, but you need to share dates as Dublin can get very expensive for certain dates (e.g. Rugby dates and you might end up sleeping on a park bench).

I stayed at Academy Plaza Hotel a few years ago. I'm going back this summer and might end up here again. O wanted to try someplace else but nothing is grabbing my eye and things already seem sold out. The HOHO bus and airlink are right across the street if memory serves me right.
