My wife, daughter (8 years) and I will be staying at a Villa in the Siena area in mid June 2013. After what I anticipate will be a terrific 7 days day-tripping around Tuscany, we leave the Villa on a Saturday morning and have 2 days before we check in to our hotel for 4 nights in Rome, checking in Monday afternoon. Then fly to Paris for the last 5 days of our trip. I would appreciate any advice readers might have on how and where we should spend those 2 days. We will have a car which we will be turning in when we get to Rome. Thanks in advance.

I would be packed and leave as early as possible, ditch the car in Florence and hop the train to Venice, spend two nights and catch a very late train to Rome on Monday.

I'd go to the beach in June.

I'd pick a beach in Tuscany, probably a wild one in the Maremma, as far away from other tourists as possible, with a nice seafood restaurant nearby. They are not hard to find. You could get a nice b&b Drop of the car at the airport in Rome and take the train in. (If you've made arrangments to drop it in the city, you can call the rental company and switch it to the airport)

If your 8-year-old daughter would get a special thrill from going to an island, you could also check out staying on the island Giglio off Tuscany, or just going out there for lunch from Porto Santo Stefano. This link has information

Italian's don't kill time because they don't really believe in it to begin with.

I would drive to Orvieto---see the famed Civita Bagnoreggio on that day---and then spend your time in beautiful Orvieto with a possible day trip to Pitigliano. It is a 2 hour drive to FCO from there for your flight to Paris.
