2 days in Marseilles

On our way to Chateneuf du Gadagne, near Avignon, in June I'm thinking of flying into Marseilles and spending a few days. Haven't been before and will be an easy drive up north after.

Where would you suggest staying (moderate), eating (any) and what to not miss?

merci!

I have us booked at the Tonic, has anyone been there recently?

Surprised that no one has any dining and sightseeing recommendations?

I recently booked the Hotel St Louis for my upcoming few days in Marseille. As for why no recs, I don't think many tourists go to Marseille, opting for the cities and towns of Provence instead. As someone who goes to France at least once a year, I'm looking forward to exploring the city and environs. My 21 year old son spent a 3 day weekend there two years ago, and he says I will not be disappointed.

We return from our trip June 1st, so I'll try to remember to reply again to this thread if I have any spectacular revelations.

Our stay at the Hotel Tonic was great and I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for an awesome location right on the port at a decent price. It was small but nice with a little modern feel to it similar to a Kimpton here in the states. Our corner room with windows opening to the port was picture perfect!

We had bouillabaisse at Restaurant Miramar one night and really awesome grilled pizzas and steaks at Entienne the other.
