1wk in the Netherlands
My husband and I are going to the Netherlands for 7 days. We would like to spend about 3 days in Amsterdam and will be visiting friends in Nijmegen probably for a day or so. Does anyone have any good itineraries for us? What other cities should we visit? We want to really get a feel for the country but do not want to be changing hotels every night but would be willing to stay in 3 diff. locations throughout the week. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

There are a lot of posts about The Netherlands on this forum; if you do a search you will find them.
It's hard to recommend where you should go without knowing what you like to do, when you will be there etc.
One thing that I can advise you, is to go to the Hoge Veluwe national park; beautiful area of the Netherlands, and the area of Arnhem, with its WWII sites. This will be sort of between Amsterdam and Nijmegen. Look at the site of Bilderberg hotels, who have several nice hotels in this area. You could then do three days Amsterdam, and base yourself near Arnhem for 4 days.

In Arnhem, visit the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum. You can see many artifacts of the diferent regions of the country. The country is so small that you could make a day trip from Amsterdam to Leiden. That is worthwhile. In Leiden you will really be exposed to Dutch history.

Dear sl_logic,
On my last trip to the Netherlands, I went through the Limburg area in the southern "tip" of the country on my way back from Germany. South Limburg is as hilly as it gets in the Netherlands, so it was a change in landscape perspective. Very pretty countryside. On my next trip, I'm going to Groningen and other points in Friesland, in the north, for contrast. It's amazing how much variety the Netherlands holds within its borders, small as it is.
