1st timers to Italy....

We are arriving in Rome and staying at Casa Howard Via Stistina for 2 days, getting rental car and heading to Tuscany for 5 nights staying at Villa Bordoni and then spending our last 2 nights at Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole. Some city, country and seaside. August 26- Sept 4th. Weather?
Anybody been to any of these places or any advice?
Thanks,
Kelly

looks v posh. Bordoni is way up there, used to pass the gate and look in. Basically you have Sienna to visit along with Firenze and Luccas. I might try to visit a spa as well. Bagno Violi is fun and a bit further south

Weather is likely to be stultifying.

Rome will be unbearable -- or stultifying, as St. Cirq says.
Tuscany will also be hot, and I would avoid going to Florence from there, as Florence in Aug. is the worst.
Porto Ercole is at least on the ocean. But still hot.

Yes, Italy in August is awfully hot. However, if that is the time you are available to go then you just have to make the best of it. Plan to move a bit slowly, carry water, take advantage of air conditioning and enjoy gelato.

Sounds like some people are jealous!

(Of course, they're not. Just kidding.)

Finzup, have a great trip!

Well it's not Andalucia hot; you have a 12% chance of reaching "sweltering" which is, I believe, the precise meteorological equivalent of "stultifying"

We spent a week at the Villa Bordoni at the end of June 2008.
It was fantastic! Some day in the not too distant future I'm going back.
Our room was lovely, the breakfast every day on the terrace was delicious with home made breads, pastries, fresh squeezed orange juice from their own orange trees etc.WE also ate dinner in their dining room on two occasions. The food was very good but very pricey.
The swimming pool was gorgeous and we made sure to make time to relax there for a bit each day.
The front desk staff were very helpful with restaurant and wine tour bookings.
I have to say nothing about this hotel disappointed me.

The heat may be a problem because you will be out walking around sightseeing. Florence sits in a kind of bowl by the river, and there is very little air moving. A lot of places are not air-conditioned. I'd check on that before booking places to stay.

However, if you are from CT and don't mind walking around NYC in 90+ degree heat, perhaps you'll be OK. We are from the SF Bay Area and can't stand really hot weather.

Villa Bordoni is fine if you want to stay in a place owned by Brits and catering to Brits.
