1Car1 Rentals

Right now I'm getting the best price for a car rental (Vauxhall Astra)for £376.65 (fully inclusive VAT, unlimited mileage, fully comprehensive insurance cover, extra driver no charge and 24 Hour Breakdown Cover), for pick up from Glasgow Airport on August 1 and return on August 16 for three adults. There is an "Insurance Excess" clause ("This excess is not taken in the form of a deposit, we will simply take a credit card imprint and ask that you give authorisation that, in the unlikely event of an accident, we may charge your card for the appropriate amount.&quot It makes me wonder why this clause is there if the fee includes fully comprehensive insurance coverage?

I did a search on Fodors for 1Car1 but hardly anything came up, and none of it gave opinions on their service, reputation, etc.

This sounds as if it's a good deal, but I was curious if anyone on here has dealt with this company? Thanks!

I have not used this company, but I did read the information.

As far as I can tell, there definitely is an excess charge. The "fully comprehensive" coverage probably refers to liability. But they have a UK and US number to call and I would call for an explanation.

It has been my experience that if it states there is an excess, it means you are responsible for damage to the car up to the excess amount.

Excess is what is called the Deductible in the States. Very few rental contracts in the UK have full insurance - most have an "Excess".

So - you need to read all the fine print to find out what 1Car1's Excess is.

Also - what credit card are you using? You may be better off asking for a quote w/o any insurance and using the coverage from your credit card.

Janis - that was my next step (calling my credit card company). I know a lot of them have the CDW coverage, but I thought if 1Car1's price included full insurance it would be worth checking into that aspect. I'm a little leery of the excess charge, hence my question. That's all I need - get home and have a $1,000 additional charge on my credit card!

Hi, I can confirm their standard excess is £500 that can be reduced to £200 by the payment of £5 perday or £20 per week.
