15-hour layover in Zurich

In Feb, we'll be returning from South Africa via Zurich with a 15-hour layover--8 am to 10:30pm. Any suggestions about how to spend the time? Should we make it an overnight stop? We have been to Zurich--many, many years ago--but I am not really keen on staying overnight. But I have not ruled it out! Thanks for any suggestions.

I would stay over and see some of the beautiful sights around there.
The excusion to the top of Mount Pilatus is a fun thing to do.

The transportation museum is well organized and I found it to be fascinating. I particularly enjoyed some of the working models, particularly of boat traffic moving through the locks of a canal.

I has a little of everything, even old passenger train cars and airplanes.
You can even take a minor ascent in a balloon.

You might want to take one of the cruise/ferry boats on the lake--we took one that stopped at different points but used it as a round-trip cruise.

What day is your trip? Time of year would affect my reccos, as things like ferry rides are not possible in February. I personally would stay over as such a long layover is exhausting, IMO, but that is up to you. If you want to stay over, do you have a budget or award points at a chain like Marriott, Sheraton or Hyatt. Do you have an interest in cultural offerings like opera or concerts. Do you want to try to do any outdoor activities like walks or biking.

Also, will you have any winter gear with you at all? As you will be coming from "summer" in SA, you may not have hats, gloves, coats, boots, etc which might make a soujourn into mountain areas in February problematic.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Your question is very appropriate, Cicerone--We won't have winter clothes (SA to South Texas!) so I've pretty much decided to get a day room at the airport to just rest.
