Hi. We were in Portugal last year. I would spend another night in Evora. we enjoyed driving to Monseraz and bought a handmade rug. I would skip Obidos. It felt like a theme park even though it was beautiful. Also recommend two nights in Douro Valley. We stayed at Casa do Visconde Chanceleiros for two heavenly days-we loved it. We had three days on Porto and could have spent another. Have fun-we loved Portugal and hope to return. Ellen

We are finalizing our itinerary and booking hotels for our trip.
We added an extra day in Evora as suggested and will skip Coimbra. My dilemma is now whether to stay in Tomar or Bussaco on our way to Porto.
It looks like we could spend most of the day in Tomar. Would you stay the night in Tomar and head to Porto the next day or leave Tomar in late afternoon and stay over in Bussaco Palace before heading to Porto the next day? We won't have much time in one afternoon to see/do much there even though the Palace looks fabulous.
Your thoughts again are much appreciated.

There's a TR http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...of-bussaco.cfm of people who stayed at the Bussaco Palace. We walked thru the forest and went into the Palace which was lovely.
There certainly is a fair amount to see in Tomar, so you could easily stay there. Guess it depends whether you'd like to go somewhere a little out of the way or stay in a town.

Hi Traveler Karen, that was our trip report (serendipity that I signed on tonight) - I think you can manage both Tomar and Bussaco - they aren't that far apart. We visited Tomar in one day and loved it - then if you drive to Bussaco (and don't get lost like we did) - you will stay in an a beautiful, amazing castle, and have a chance to walk around in the woods - Porto is only 2 hours from Bussaco so plenty of time to get there the next day. Enjoy - can't wait to read about your journey.
