$120 on Priceline for a 4-star in A'dam- nada!

What the heck!?! I booked a 4-star hotel last summer on Priceline for $90- and that was a counter offer, so I probably could have gotten something lower!!
This time, I started at $80 and I've re-bid all the way up to $120 for a 4 or 5 star in the museum district- Nothing!! We'll be there from June 12 - June 15 (Monday- Thursday). I have other options (Seven Bridges and Hotel Fita), I was just hoping Priceline would work out. Any thoughts?
I have been to www.biddingfortravel.com but I can only go there from home- it's blocked at work

Are you saying that you were hoping to get as good a deal this year as last? I'm somehow not surprised you aren't.
Or are you saying that $120 for one of the likely 4 or 5 star hotels isn't a good deal?

Priceline's 4* hotels tend to be more busy on weekdays, and have lower rates on weekends. Also, later in the summer, more people are on holiday rather than business, and that drives down rates too. So given your dates and times, it's not surprising.

Take a look at Hotwire. Given the rates there for your dates, it's again not surprising you're not being successful on Priceline. I suspect if you check the Marriott web site for their two Amsterdam hotels, you would find the rates are high also.

Ahh- got it, thanks! I was just really confused that my bids were not being accepted. Last year I bid about 1 1/2 weeks before we departed *and* we were there over a weekend.
Thanks for the explaination. I will try Hotwire...
Cheers!

You've probably come to this conclusion but I would say don't give up on Priceline, it may just take a bit more effort than last year. If you have a cancellable back-up hotel (that allows you to cancel without charges) then you can keep trying Priceline up to your cancellation date.
