bfac- I can't remember exactly the cost of the taxi ride- I was thinking around $100 each way US but Euro 85 seems to also be a possibility in which case it would be more like $130 US each way! Awfully steep I know.
The staff at Villa Le Barone encouraged us to ride the local bus which comes frequently- this would entail a 10 minute walk down to the main road leading to Panzano- I recall seeing quite a few bus stop signs but no benches- it just sounded too daunting- we were into relaxation and no stress but I think it would be a fun adventure and next time we go we might try it.
Another possibility would be asking some fellow guests if they'd like to share a taxi with you. A female driver with a minivan took us into the city. It's easy to make friends at Villa Le Barone- you end up conversing with other guests during meals or at the pool. Almost everyone takes the half board plan and eats dinner there- the food is excellent and plentiful.
Maitaitom- we had a side order of fresh grilled porcini mushrooms and the most wonderful pasta dish with shaved truffles- divine! You're right about the long lunch at Lamole- the whole experience incl the drive seemed to take up half the day!
