12 day honeymoon in Italy (May/June)
Hi all, we are two ladies planning our honeymoon in Italy late May/early June this year, really excited about it. Would love some suggestions on our itinerary below, and how to best choose accommodation options/places, especially along the Amalfi coast! We'd like a relaxing environment with a great view along the Amalfi coast, but central in the other places.
Day 1 [May 30] - Arrive in Naples at 8pm from Greece
Day 2 - Naples
Day 3 - Attempt to daytrip to Pompeii on the way down to Sorrento/Positano (where would we put our bags?). Stay in Positano/Sorrento
Day 4 - Positano/Sorrento. Visit amalfi coast towns
Day 5 - Positano/Sorrento. Visit amalfi coast towns
Day 6 - Train to Rome (Best transportation option?)
Day 7 - Rome
Day 8 - Rome
Day 9 - Train from Rome to Florence
Day 10 - Florence
Day 11 - Train from Florence to Venice
Day 12 - Venice
Day 13 - Fly back to US
We get that the last part of the trip feels a little rushed, and were wondering if we should maybe cut a day from the Amalfi Coast, or fly from Greece to Amalfi a day earlier and spend 2.5 days in Florence instead. We're generally more excited about spending time in the small Amalfi towns than Florence which I've visited before, but my wife hasn't.
Naples/Amalfi questions
- Since it's our honeymoon, we do want a relaxing place to stay in the Amalfi coast towns with a great view, and daytrip to the towns of Capri/Amalfi/Ravello. Positano seems to fit this, but we're aware availability seems to be starting to be lacking... What would be a good second option as a base for sight-seeing but also transportation to Rome after - Sorrento or Amalfi? Our budget at the moment would be ~100-150eur/night.
- Would it be worth checking out and staying in Naples for the day?
- Where would we be able to store our bags if we are visiting Pompeii between Naples and Amalfi Coast?
- What options are there for travel to Rome from Positano that do not involve going back through Naples? Bus to Salerno seems pretty long from Positano, and even longer from Sorrento.
- General romantic things to do recommendations?
Rome / Venice questions
- What central areas would you suggest we look for accommodation in? Trastevere in Rome is one we're considering.
- General romantic things to do recommendations?
Thank you!
