hazel you r right about packing a picnic for the train. At least pick up sandwiches at the train station to take with you. The food that is sold on the trains is pretty ordinary and quite expensive. Venice train station has a great cafe where you can buy really good sandwiches for a few euros each.

why so many days in rome? especially if you don't like museums?? rome is a museum...
why not limit italy to 3 days venice....2.5 days florence...the rest in rome...btw the ghetto area in rome is fab, even for non-jews.... we loved it and it is near to everything...

Parents are still pretty nimble But yes I've already warned my family that everyone is allowed just one small roller and a backpack
I'll definitely look into the Roma Pass.... going to start nailing things down....
