A friend an I are looking for a new destination in Europe to spend a week. Have heard so much talk about Dubrovnik, Split and Zageb, and they all sound interesting. We are two women in our late 50s however, and we're not interested in renting a car and driving. We're also not up for lengthy bus rides. Can anyone suggest a possible one week trip that would provide a lot to see and do in any or all of these areas? Possibly one city that could be a base for several days with day trips? We love to be very active, lots of walking, not interested in sitting on a beach or at a resort. Would be willing to hire a car and driver for some of the time if thats what it takes. I know this is a tall order, any and all help would be much appreciated.

I've not yet been to Croatia, but I have been researching intensely prior to my October trip.

It seems to me that Dubrovnik offers the most options, with day tours to both Montenegro and Mostar, boat trips to the Elafiti islands, you can get to Cavtat and Korcula by boat. There is the vineyard tour on the Peljesac peninsula, and from what I have read there are any number of private guides to be found to take you wherever.

You don't say when you are going, but there are also ferries from Split to Dubrovnik, so you maybe start in Split and then take a ferry down the coast to Dubrovnik, stopping at Hvar on the way?
