1 Day in Dublin
Our cruise ship docks in Dublin and Belfast in May, for 1 day each port. We are not interested in the expensive ship/shore excursions. Can anyone recommend alternatives to see some of the sights on our own?

Things you might visit are:
-Trinity College and the Book of Kells
-Walk through nearby the Stephen's Green
-Museum dedicated to James Joyce (and nearby Irish Writer's Museum
-Take the "Walk of the 1916 Rebellion"- arrange at the Tourist Bureau--cost 10 euros--1 1/2 hours
-Shop on Grafton Street
If you noted what your interests are it would be easier to come up with other specific recommendations.

Getting an idea of the people and customs and country as a whole with just one day in Dublin and Belfast might be pretty tough to do. Clearly the two largest cities on the island and city life is substantially different than country life as it is in most countries.
Just figure you'll come back.

Another option for Dublin is the Hop On/Hop Off bus tour. You pay one price and get on and off the bus at any of the sights that pique your interest. The tours covers all of the highlights of Dublin and is a great way to see the city for a first-timer.
