Sorry... Should've mentioned we've been to Rouen! And loved it!

Um, maybe you missed it but I already posted a link to my list of day trips that are easy to access from Paris. Orléans is not really worth a day trip when there are so manyt more attractive and interesting places to visit. It has Joan of Arc history but it is not an especially attractive or interesting place. Certainly not awful but there are better places to visit. Senlis, Moret-sur-Loing, Auvers-sur-Oise, Crécy-la-Chapelle, Chartres, Provins, Giverny and other places might interest you and are mentioned in my day trip list.

The Siege of Compiègne (1430) was Joan of Arc's final military action. I think there is a lot of history and beauty there. Quick train ride from Paris. Biking through the forest.

I have an amateur interest in Joan of Arc... I've read a little bit about Orleans, Domremy, etc, wondering if there are any other quaint towns that come to mind as a good day trip>

Agree with Frenchmystique on Orleans after having lived there on and off for several years - there is a small Joan of Arc museum and the cathedral is named after her - Rouen would be a much nicer large city with lots of Joan memories - she was burnt to death here.

But surprisingly little in Orleans about Joan of Arc even though on May 8 (?) each year there is an impressive Joan of Arc day with elaborate parade.

but besides the awesome cathedral - one of the lagest in France - there is little of special tourist interest here though it is a very pleasant city - its looks suffered from serious war damage by Allied planes and rebuilt in a nice but not dreamy way.
