wine prices? beverage pkg. or glass
we're on splendour of the seas out of venice and wonder if anyone knows price of a glass of 'house' wine at dinner? they offer beverage package but don't know if it's worth it or not.

We did that cruise last November and as I recall the house wine was about $6 a glass (I could be low on this). The other two couples at our table did the package so they had a bottle of wine each evening. If they did not consume the entire bottle they could take it back to their cabin or the waiter would store it until the next evening. I think if you plan to drink more than a glass at each dinner, or plan to buy a bottle each evening, then you can save some money with the packages. There are I think three level of packages to choose from.

I'm going on that exact same cruise next week for my honeymoon. Any advice on what to do in Mykonos, Katakolon, Corfu, and Split? We were thinking rent a car in Katakolon go out to Olympia, but were unsure what to do with the rest of our day. We'll also rent a car on Corfu, but are unsure of what to see. We're very adventurous and like to try new/ different things.
Thanks for the info on the wine, we were also wondering if we should do the package.

rkckjhkgoku - we had discussed renting a car in Corfu with another couple (our table mates) but after pricing that option, we talked to a cab driver (there will be lots of them hanging around the port) and he offered us a 4 hour tour of the island for 100 Euros (50 per couple). We did that and it was a smart choice. He was very polite, spoke excellent English, and took us places we could not have found ourselves (example: we visited a Monastery and he was able to take us inside to see ancient olive presses, the chapel, etc - normally off limits to visitors). Since the car would have cost us about 60 Euros plus gas, and I would have been driving, we all were happier with the taxi tour (me especially
). He then dropped us off downtown, we had a nice lunch, did a little shopping, etc.
In Katakolon we did the ship tour to Olympia which we enjoyed. There is a train you can take on your own as well. This is the only excursion we did.
In Split you can spend the majority of the time just wandering the old city - be sure to visit the church there. We did the "hop on hop off" bus but it was IMO not worth the money. Once you leave the old town Split is pretty drab and dreary (think the old time communist apartment blocks). We did see the Tennis Club where so many of the top players have trained and the local football club's stadium, but other than that, the bus tour is not much.
There are many good places along the waterfront in Split to get a beer or a bite to eat and prices are pretty reasonable. There is also a very large market area just outside the old city with many vendors of almost anything you may or may not want!
Have fun this is a great cruise.

I have been on RCI and always take a wine package. If we do not finish the bottle of wine at dinner, we can take it to the room or save it for the next night. You can also order a extra bottle of wine (unopened) from your package to take to your room and drink while in your room. Be aware that if you order a package, make sure you order a more expensive wine and not the cheapest. Otherwise, you don't save anything. All in all, I think we saved money by getting the wine & dine package. It depends on how much you plan to drink.
If you go to www.cruisecritic.com and search the RCI board for the wine package, you can compare the costs of all the wines to see if a package saves you money.
My husband & I ordered an extra bottle of the La Terre (least expensive wine on the wine list and considered their "house wine"
and it was OK.
We will be on the Splendour later this year and plan to purchase a wine & dine package.
