Why Celebrity Deep discounts
Any idea why Celebrity Cruise Lines, a division of RCL, is offering unusually high discounts in the peak of the Caribbean season?

RCL cash flow is at an acceptable level, so this cannot be a last gasp to raise cash.

Good question, Lew. I've asked that same question on other forums and got no answer.

We are sailing on the Century, on November 23 (Thanksgiving cruise)for $1300 for 2, category 3.

We are also booked to do a transatlantic next October on the Millennium, and the price has dropped already. I expected it to drop some by next spring/summer but not this early!!

We are sailing RC in Late Jan-into Feb. the original plan was to spend a week in PR. After seeing the prices for accomodations, plus food, plus a rental car, plus attractions we opted for a cruise out of San Juan. Just couldn't beat it for the price. Maybe due to the fact they are now "one" they can afford to lower prices. Or the economy is bad so traveling is less. Also I have noticed flights to PR are less than I expected for peak season.

I'm not sure I understand your post. When I compare pricing for all the cruise lines they seem to be close to one another. The only Celebrity Cruise that seems to be discounted more than most is the Galaxy which is departing from a non-traditional port.

The only time you normally see a ship priced lower than the rest is if the bookings are down and they are trying to get some cabins sold.

It's true-- look around spring break... the Voyager, Conquest, Zuiderdam, and Dawn range from high 800's to low 100's for an oceanview, and the Century is at 611!!! There are several other places Celebrity is shockingly lower, and it IS confusing...

There was a burst of cruise ships being made when the economy was good in the 90's. Many of those ships were supposed to sail Europe. Now most people aren't traveling as much and the ships have been moved to the States. Thus making an overabundance of cruise liners and not enough people to fill them. It is better to sell a room at a deep discount than to see it go empty. Learned this from the travel guy.

Look at the first few weeks of March and midJune in the summer months... the HAL ships are at the high 800's/900's, and the Century is in the low 600's... it's this way on several weeks next year, several agents have told me they don't know why it is either.
