Which cruise line for a first trip
My spouse and I both in our forties, never been on a cruise would like to go on one in January 2014. We like to be entertained, relax. And do sports as well We don't need a casino or wild nightclubs. And would like to go to the eastern or western Caribean

I would try a mid-size ship from Holland America or Princess for a first cruise. The Coral, Sun and Island Princess ships would give you a good taste with a little lessthe 2,000 passengers.
On HAL, we've sailed on the Westerdam, Zaandam and are on the Ryndam next month. All have nice entertainment, good food, great ports of call and are around 1,400 - 1,500 passengers.

Princess
Don't book online, call Princess. Then they will confirm all with email and then you can visit Princess web site and see your booking.
BUT cruise line direct (e.g. Princess) may not offer some of the deals you can get. Get on their email list. We are taking next Princess cruise at email notified discount of about 40% off of "list". This is because our booking was within 6 weeks of sailing. 20% discounts typical within 6 months of sailing. (Note - within 6 weeks cabin selection becomes limited)
Which reminds me - do NOT book an inside cabin. Get one outside with unobstructed view and a balcony is very nice if you can budget the extra $$$.
