What do you know about Louis Hellenic Cruises?

We are taking a cruise out of Athens for 7 days on Louis Cruises in June. Do you know anything about this cruise line? How do you rate it?

Hi Condessa,

I don't have an answer to your question, but we are going on the same cruise in September.
I would appreciate your reviews after you come back. Have a nice trip.

how was your cruise out of Athens? I've always wanted to cruise the Greek Islands.

I am going on a cruise to Greece as well in Sept on Louis Cruise lines and so far, the reviews I have read are pretty scary. Leaking hallways, bad plumbing and loud propellers under the boat. I would love some info about this ship, liner...but there appears to be nothing on the internet.

As I said in the other post, I was extremely disappointed with the Louis Hellenic cruise. We took a 4 day cruise from Athens on the PERLA ship and were happy to get off that ship after 4 days
Old ship, tiny cabins, dirty windows that prevented you to see outside, mediocre food, cafeteria-style dining room, amateurish shows, very small pool. Anyone who has been on a regular American style cruise ship will be disappointed.
I have already written to Globus Tour and asked them why they selected this cruise ship. I think every one in our tour group was planning to also write to Globus.
Karina.

Karina1,

Did you feel safe on the boat and getting off at the ports, taking excursions, etc?

Yes, I felt safe. No problem there.

Kusadasi has very aggressive sales people who tried to get you inside their shops. I could not even get the price of an item. Fortunately, we did not stay long in that city. We did have the "mandatory tour" in a carpet shop. It was actually interesting to see the different types of carpets. They served us some apple tea.
Ephesus is the highlight of this excursion, NOT Kusadasi.
Hope this helps.

We just returned from our honeymoon - we did an 11 day Agean Classic with 7 day Greek Island/Turkey cruise on Louis Hellenic Cruise - Perla. It was absolutely the worst experience of our lives. We would never ever cruise on their line again even if they were to offer us a free cruise - that's how bad it was.
First, we were supposed to be on one of their larger ships, but apparently the company is going through bankruptcy and their larger ships are stuck at port until they can pay the back taxes that are due (or at least that is the story that we got from the crew on the ship). Secondly, the ship was extremely overcrowded. We paid for an upgraded oceanview cabin - we got a room the size of a closet on the very bottom deck that was for the crew. Third, the food was so very awful - we would go without eating rather than eat the food on the ship - my husband got food poisoning from eating on the ship. Everyone was complaining. The same food - I mean the same food - was seen on the buffet and in the dining hall day after day - they just slapped some sauce on it and called it by a new name. Fourth, the sewage system backed up on the dining deck and the smell was just awful - people were getting sick and causing more stench - it was truly the worst experience. Fifth, the itinerary had such exciting things as Scrabble, Napkin Folding, Bead Making, etc. There were no TVs on the ship except in one of the lounges, the casino consisted on 7 slot machines and 3 tables, the shows were done by crew (and were very bad - people were falling asleep through them or getting up and leaving). The rooms were awful - the air conditioning never worked so the entire boat was always very very warm - people were getting sick from the heat, the rooms had leaks (for example, our room leaked from the vent above the closet area, so the carpet was always soaked and we had to keep our bags off of the floor - the rooms were so small though that there was no place to put them where they wouldn't get wet), there were leaks in the bathroom, holes in the walls, and the list goes on. They advertised that room service was included - but room service never answers the phone and if you call the Purser's Desk - they will take your order but you get charged. My husband was sick with food poisoning and I didn't want to leave him to go find some hot tea, I tried to get some delivered to the room - it took over an hour and they were extremely rude on top of that.

My advice is do not waste your time or money - it is NOT worth it!!! They ruined our honeymoon - we could not wait to get off of the ship!!!!!

NO NO NO
Frommer's has a post in today's email from passengers w/major
major complaints.

If you charged on your credit card
you might be able to get your money back.

There are many other European ships that are smaller which might
fit your needs.

I just returned from a cruise on Louis Hellenic " Seranade". Had been booked on another ship. They booked itto another group out from under our noses and added this ship.We were third in line at all ports, had to use tenders, only got to spend an hour or two at each island. Ship horrible, I feared fire or sinking. Most food inedible.

I'm curios. Why would someone book a cruise on a line or ship they know nothing about? Before I book anything I check all information that is available and this line doesn't sound too good. For future reference try cruisecritic.com for information and reviews on ships. Just wondering.

Shar, I went with a group from my church. This group leader had taken others before, all on land tours. I was concerned that I could not find anything about the ship, but...too late, I had paid , Cash was demanded. A veteran of seven cruises and at least 10 previous land tours, I should have known better. I feel sorry for those folks onboard who went with Globus and other name tours.
