Southern Carib ports & Carnival
Does anyone have any input on the Carnival line, the DESTINY in particular? Also St Thomas, Martinique, Barbados, and Aruba?
I will be going there next month and if anyone else has done these ports or this ship I would like to hear about it.

Just did Carnival in April, first time with them and probably last even tho we were on their newest ship, the Pride. Food was nothing special, bed was the worst I've had any place ever and the sound system for shows was enough to damage your hearing. Would definitely not recommend this cruise line.

Hi Delores,

Wow, seething.

Of all the cruise lines I have sailed the beds all seem the same to me except when they get worn out and you sink in the middle. The Pride's beds are new. You will not have any better luck on any other cruise line.

This is my opinion but I thought the food was excellent. The "food court" style buffet was the best ever. NY Deli, Asian Counter, Food of Nations Counter that changes daily, the regular buffet/carving line, the fruit and dessert counter, the Grill serving burgers, fries, dogs, salad, steak and chicken breast sandwiches and veggie burgers Also the 24 hour Pizza, calzone, caesar salad counter and the 24 hour ice-cream bar. None of the food is dry and unsavory. And what is best - no lines.

The dining room although looking like an enormous Dennys has great real prime rib and lobster twice. The steaks, veal and lamb were just as good. Other than the desserts that are brought on the ship frozen (choose RCCL here), I can not see how you did not enjoy the food. There are so many choices.

The first production show was the most creative I have seen on any ship with the exception of the last show on Disney. Sure it's loud ... full orchestra. It's not church, you know.

I don't understand. Possibly you went on the cruise expecting the worse and therefore it met your expectations. Or possibly you are used to the sedate experience of a Radisson, Crystal, Seabourn, Cunard or Silversea.

You will not find many negative reviews for the Pride.

Hope you have a better experience next time.

Paul

Do a search for the word Destiny in the cruise forum here. I did the Destiny last summer and someone recently asked the exact same question. I gave my opinion of the ports.

In a nutshell: I thought the inside of the ship was ugly, but the ship crew was good overall. I really didn't go for the ship, but the ports. I liked all the ports of call. Martinique tended to be a problem for most Americans because many of the locals speak only French.

Good Luck.
