FWIW often there are decent discounts around the holidays, eg July 4.

So you might keep an eye on those for last-minute price drops. Or perhaps the prices now are good enough.

Just a quick follow-up. We decided that if we were going to do this, we should try out Celebrity. I had searched on the various sites and had gotten a best price of $1449 per person for a balcony room. Then Cheryl tripped and broke her wrist (neither of us had ever broken a bone before, and now we both have this year!). She had surgery yesterday. Anyway, about the time we decided we couldn't do the cruise, I got an offer for $1249 per person for a balcony room.

While we won't be going this year, for next year I will know more about what a good price is and will start looking early!

Thanks for all the help.

Kathie my brother and wife just did a Celebrity cruise in the Mediterranean. I have never been on Celebrity, but they loved it. Last night they told me they could not complain about one thing. And this is coming from two people who find something to complain about all the time so quite a compliment. I hope you are both on the mend soon.

Best of luck, Larry. .

I check prices on vacationstogo.com but then get bids from cruisecompete.com and generally get decent extra savings.

I've cruised all the mainstream cruise lines and put Celebrity behind Holland America and Princess, primarily because they have nothing to distinguish them and lack live music (outside the shows). They are banned from bidding on Glacier Bay (for polluting).

Cruising is a good option while you are disabled--I walk with a cane yet am often among the more mobile, and am always treated well.
