Smoking on Triumph or Destiny

I have two kids with asthma. Is the smoking on the cruise, in general, really that bad? Paradise is the only non-smoking ship but we do not like its ports of call as much. I am trying to decide which of these three to book. Any advice is appreciated.

Your concern is understandable. Hope others see it as such and not go into the anti-smoking tirade.

All cruise lines limit smoking to specific areas...usually one side of bars, and outdoors in the Lido area. None of the cruise lines permit smoking in eating areas, i.e. dining rooms or indoor in the Lido. Since you have chosen two mega liners, you will be able to find smoke free areas.

Most smokers are not the evil weak people made out by the anti-smoke lobby, and obey the rules.

Also, stay away from the casinos-- those
areas seem to be havens for smokers.
Since kids aren't allowed in the casinos
that shouldn't be a problem, but the
promenade areas next to it could be
a problem. Just circumvent those areas
or just walk briskly by to minimize
exposure. As said earlier, dining
areas are non-smoking and so are the
children's play areas (counselors not
allowed to smoke while on the job).
Just be prepared and plan ahead and you
will have a good time.

The problem is the smoke does not recognise the smoking areas and drifts into the non smoking areas.
It is similar to allowing weeing in the shallow end of the swimming pools

My niece is also asthmatic and they recently returned from a cruise on Princess. As others have indicated, just stay clear of casinos and bars and you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever as the newer ships have excellent ventillation. My niece is only 5 and this was one of her parents' concerns too but said they'd go back tomorrow if they could. Choose based on itinerary and have a wonderful time.
