Shore excursions on Paul Gaugin ship in Tahiti?
Has anyone been on a Regent Seven Seas Paul Gaugin cruise in Tahiti? If yes, did you take any shore excursion? Were they worthwhile or could you do the same on your own or picking up a tour on the dock? Appreciate anything anyone has to say! Thanks.

Suggest you go to the Cruise Critic Regent board and search. There are many posts by PG cruisers, including information about shore excursions. In short, we've been on the PG for 24 days. We have almost always taken the ship's excursions. Once we rented our own car in Moorea, and once I booked a private excursion in Huahine, and he canceled on us. In general, the ship's excursions have been excellent. The one or two times that there were "issues," Regent actually gave partial refunds. We like sailing excursions and ones that have snorkeling. The Dolphin excursion with Dr. Poole, which we enjoyed, generally gets very high marks.

The most important thing you need to recognize is that the people of the Society Islands are far less commercially oriented than other areas. As a result, there are not many private shore excursions available. We took ship shore excursions on Raitaea, Bora Bora, and Moorea, nd all worked out well. We also rented a car on Moorea. On this cruise, I think you are best off using the ship's excursions.

Yes, we did this trip about 3 years ago...the shore excursions are fantastic..one memorable one was an all day tour up a river to a Fiji village, watching their dances, enjoying a meal, etc..another day we just booked a taxi for the day and he took us all around, also very good.

For the Paul Gauguin Cruises in the Society Islands, Huahine port of call, if you want to do a lagoon sailing cruise, you can book direct with Claude, e.mail [email protected]. He owns a 50 ft sailboat and offers a special timing for cruisers (Ocean Princess, Oceania Marina and Paul Gauguin). It is recommended to book in advance by mail.He needs a minimum of 4 or he can provide a private tour for only 2.You can check reviews of this activity on tripadvisor.
