Second Carnival Smoke-Free Ship?
Recently aboard Carnival's Paradise, a few
different Carnival employees mentioned that
the company is considering designating one
of their soon-to-be commissioned new ships
as a second totally non-smoking vessel which
will likely also follow a Caribbean itinerary. Has anyone heard anything about
this and when it may be available? Thanks!
Gary

I have not heard this yet, but when someone does be sure to let "Merriem" and "Noah" know and take them with you.
I no longer smoke but as a former smoker know how hard it is these days to enjoy your vice. Once we have a no-smoking society, what will be next on the hit list. Please don't take my white wine away.

We were at a travel show recently and spoke with a rep from Carnival, who used to be our TA but now works for Carnival. He told us that although the Paradise sails full almost every trip, it generates the least revenue of any of the ships in their fleet. I guess non-smokers don't drink or gamble as much. This idea of a second smoke free ship has been mentioned in several other cruise boards so people must be hearing it from somewhere. It seems to be very popoular with lots of non-smokers who go on it just for that reason and they seem to be sending a loud message to the cruise line that they want more like it. Maybe the cruise line is willing to try it again to keep all those passengers happy and coming back! Stayed tuned I guess!
Hi, Kathy and Paul: Thanks for your replies. Kathy, you're right on about Paradise generating lower alcohol and casino revenues. During our cruise the casino never appeared really crowded and most drink servers seemed to have lots of time. The cruise was fully booked however and I suspect that along with revenue from shore excursions, etc. this ship still produces a good return for the company. It would be interesting to see comparison figures. At any rate, as long as Carnival continues to offer a smoke-free product, we will continue to be repeat customers and that was the feedback I heard from most of my fellow passengers. Cheers, Gary
Carnival is in the process/planning of building more ships like to Carnival Destiny and Carnival Triumph. I've heard a rumor that Carnival is thinking of making one of these mega ships completely non-smoking. This is just a rumor I heard I haven't heard anything direct from Carnival. I suppose if they get a good reponse from the Paradise more are to come in the future.

Hi, Denise: Thanks for your reply. I heard the same thing when I was aboard Paradise. Having a smoke-free option really sets Carnival apart from all of the other lines in the U.S. I've also heard good reviews about Renaissance Cruises with their smoke-free Mediteranean ships. If Carnival expands their smoke-free options, they will likely continue to build a very dedicated, long-term passenger following which will effectively lock out their competition in this increasingly popular segment and assure Carnival dominance. Pretty smart marketing strategy! Cheers, Gary
