What have you used for young children who become queasy on cruise? Will be traveling w/ 3, 6, 8, and 10 year-olds on 7-day cruise and would like to bring along some "meds" for them. (I use bonine, but that's not for kids under 12.) Thanks!

Many seasickness medications (such as meclizine) were originally sold only by prescription and are now available over-the-counter in lower dosages. When this happens with medications, they are generally listed on label as not for anyone under 12 since they do not do much drug testing on kids.

The kids' health care provider is really the only one who can answer your question - since what works and is safe for 10 year old will not be the same as for the 3 year old. It is quite likely that the same adult medications in much smaller dosages will be OK for the kids - but please check with their individual MDs/NPs.

If the kids do not get carsick or other form of motion sickness, it is very unlikely they will get sick on the ship - but no harm in being prepared.

Consult your MD. Actually, in my cruising, I have always seen sick kids at least once during the week.

When we cruise we give our kids (13, 11, 9 &6) childrens Gravol. We started the day before our cruise and took 1 every morning until we diembarked the ship.

We have no sick kids and the week was great.

FYI - Gravol (Canadian over-the-counter name) and Dramamine (US name) are the same medication - chemical/generic name dimenhydrinate.
